Contractor To File CityCenter Liens

The main contractor for the $8.5 billion CityCenter complex in Las Vegas is reportedly threatening to file liens against project co-owners MGM Mirage and Dubai World to collect $492 million in construction costs.

In a federal filing, MGM officials disagree with the amount that Perini Building Co. is seeking because of construction errors with the complex’s Harmon Hotel. That building was supposed to open in December with the rest of the development but remains unfinished.

The original design has reportedly been reduced by 22 stories and less 200 condominiums because of the construction errors.

“We believe CityCenter’s claims against Perini may actually exceed the amount of what CityCenter’s estimated liabilities to Perini, MGM spokesman Gordon Absher said.

Absher added the joint partnership is reassessing when to finish and open the hotel.

Perini Building Co.’s lien could be filed by the end of March.
