“ODDSAC” is a collaboration between Animal Collective and first-time filmmaker Danny Perez, a visual artist whose concert projections will be familiar to fans of acts like Black Dice and Panda Bear.

The feature length film, which the group describes as “a dense surreal layering of audio and visual elements that eschews conventional narrative to create a visceral, immersive experience,” will make its debut at a series of screenings around the country later this month.

Cities hosting viewings of the “visual album” include Philadelphia (April 16), Baltimore (April 17), Boston (April 20) and Atlanta (April 26).

“ODDSAC,” which features an original score with new songs by Animal Collective that won’t be released in any other form, is the culmination of more than four years of work between the band and Perez, who explained that the result is something entirely new to the music world.

“It was meant to be an open-ended operation of audio-video synthesis, the passing back and forth of visuals and sounds so that each would inform the other and create an organic structure,” the director said.

Fans who aren’t lucky enough to live in one of the preview cities will get their chance to experience “ODDSAC” for themselves when the film is released on DVD June 29.

Complete info on tickets, which are priced at $15 for most shows, is available at Oddsac.com.
