Shooting Interrupts Tampico Show

A recent Jenni Rivera concert in Tampico, Mexico, was over before it started when thousands of people in the crowd began to flee amid reports of a shooting.

Rivera, who was scheduled to perform at a street fair in the city, was just about to take the stage when she saw several in the crowd take off running, according to a post on her Twitter account.

“My security … shouted at me not to go up and they pulled me and covered me,” she wrote, “Everyone on my team is OK.”
The shootout reportedly took place between rival gangs at a nearby nightclub. Seven people were killed in the club, the state government of Tamaulipas said on its Web site.

Tamaulipas, which borders Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, has been fraught with violence recently. Authorities have reportedly attributed much of it to a bitter split between drug cartels in the region.
