Blue Man Group Theatrical Tour
You might have seen the drumming yet ear-less act come to your town before with its “Complex Rock Tour” or “How To Be a Megastar Tour 2.0” but the upcoming round of 2010-2011 U.S. dates is completely different in that the trek marks the group’s first-ever theatrical tour.
“People may ask why it’s taken more than 20 years for us to mount a theatrical tour,” Blue Man Group cofounder Matt Goldman said. “The answer is simple: We wanted to get it right. As we prepare to bring our show to new audiences across the country, we needed to make sure we incorporated all of the knowledge we have gained over the years to make the most entertaining and emotionally powerful production ever.”
The Blue Man Group currently hosts theatrical productions in New York; Boston; Chicago; Las Vegas; Orlando, Fla.; Berlin; Zurich, Switzerland and Tokyo. The theatrical show is now taking to the road with dates booked through May 2011.
The new tour will feature a new physical design that includes a proscenium-sized LED curtain and high-resolution screen. Blue Man Group’s multi-media performances are backed by a live band that sets the mood with haunting tribal rhythms. Fans can expect to see classic Blue Man moments mixed in with brand new content, all wrapped up into a “journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning.”
The fun begins with a Sept. 14-26 residency at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. The guys then pick up their props and paint and head for Dayton, Ohio, with performances set for Sept. 28-Oct. 3 at Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center.
Fans can also catch the Blue Men at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford, Conn. (Oct 26-31), Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore (Nov. 2-7), Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville (Nov. 16-21) and Buell Theatre in Denver (Dec. 7-19).
Dates also include shows at the Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo, Mich. (Feb. 15-16, 2011), Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island (March 4-6, 2011) and The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in Anchorage (May 10-15, 2011).
Tickets to the Denver residency are on sale now. Tickets to the Dallas and Dayton, Ohio, shows go on sale in July, and tickets to see the guys at the DuPont Theatre in Wilmington, Del (April 5-10, 2011) and in Alaska go on sale in August.
