The Conchords Fly Back To The U.S.
Fans in the Golden State will have two chances in May to catch their favorite New Zealand comedy/folk duo. The Flight Of The Conchords is set to play the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif., May 28 followed by a May 30 gig at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
“Last year we had an amazing time performing in LA at the Greek Theatre. It was an unforgettable evening. Unfortunately, everybody forgot it. So, we’re doing it again. This time at the Hollywood Bowl. We hope it will be a truly unforgettable unforgettable night,” the guys explained on the Conchords’ official Web site.
“We’re also going to play a show in Berkeley because last time we played there, we forgot some of the chords and insulted the audience.”
Pre-sale tickets are on sale now by using the password “frodo.” Tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m. PST.
Before playing California, the Rhymenoceros and Hiphopopotamus are going to spent the rest of May showing off their rhyming and rapping and altogether silly skills with a European tour.
The trek kicks off May 3 with two nights at Melkweg in Amsterdam and wraps up May 25 with a gig at Wembley Arena in London. The tour also includes nearly a dozen more U.K. dates as well as shows in Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Kristen Schaal, who played Flight of the Conchords’ über fan Mel, is joining the guys on tour as the Conchords opening act May 5-15.
Arj Barker, who played Jemaine and Bret’s friend Dave on the series, will then take over May 16-25.
HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords” ran from June 2007-March 2009. The series followed the adventures of fictionalized versions of Jemaine and Bret as they tried to make it in New York as a recently transplanted folk band from New Zealand.
In December, Jemaine, Bret and co-creator/director James Bobin announced that the series wouldn’t be returning for a third season, explaining that “we’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. …While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.”
