Steve Jones Remembers McLaren

Through his roles as the manager of the Sex Pistols and the proprietor of London’s Let It Rock clothing store in the ’70s, the late Malcom McLaren’s been revered as a punk visionary.

But it wouldn’t be too rock ’n’ roll without at least one sordid tale of the good ol’ days.

Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones recently issued a statement about McLaren who died April 8. The animosity between the Pistols and their former manager is well known, but Jones was gracious “despite some of our differences.” That, and he recalled a very special gift.

“My fondest memory of Malcolm, and I loved the guy, was his birthday gift to me when I turned 21 —– he got me a hooker and some heroin,” Jones said.
