Wear Your Music was co-founded by Hannah Garrison and Steve Bernstein after Bernstein posted an ad on Craigslist reading, “Do you have any ideas for interesting products made with guitar strings?”

Garrison contacted him with a crazy idea and Wear Your Music’s signature product, bracelets made from recycled silver and guitar strings that previously graced the instruments of artists from Keith Richards to Les Paul, was born.

Such a simple, yet literally elegant, idea quickly caught on with more than 120 ecology minded musicians including Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Dolly Parton, Brian May, Andrew Stockdale, Ani DiFranco, Benji Madden, Bonnie Raitt, James Hetfield, Pete Townshend, Dweezil Zappa, Kyle McDonald, Avril Lavigne and Joan Jett.

Proceeds from the sale of each bracelet are then donated to the charity of the artist’s choice.

“This year alone, we’ve donated to over 52 charities on behalf of over 100 artists,” Garrison said. “This project makes me feel good when I wake up in the morning.”

The WYM line has proved to be so popular, the company has introduced an entire Rock ‘n’ Roll jewelry collection, as well as a line of lower priced bracelets, charms and necklaces.
