Jazz Fest Spirit Stays Afloat

Torrential rain, thunder, lightning and mud puddles didn’t stop the music on opening day of the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival April 23 at Fair Grounds Race Course.

Thousands of fans braved the weather the first weekend to see acts including Dr. John, 311, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Imagination Movers and Allman Brothers Band, to name a few.

“Friday reminded me of just what an incredible crew we have that managed to get 61 of the 62 acts scheduled in a monsoon on stage,” producer Quint Davis said. “People who stayed through the baptism got what they came for.”

The event resumes April 29 and runs through May 2.
