Billy Zoom Cancer Free

Saying he’s now free from cancer, famed X guitarist Billy Zoom is spreading the prevention gospel as he stresses the importance of regular examinations.

Zoom’s “Big C” experience was prostate cancer. Fortunately, the cancer was diagnosed in its early stages and after a March 2010 radical prostatectomy, Zoom’s doctors are giving him the “all clear.”

“I will need regular follow-up checks over the years, but we have arrived at the best possible outcome,” Zoom said. “It won’t affect my commitments to X, and the Billy Zoom Custom Shop is back in full production of Little Kahunas [reverb/tremelo units] and other custom electronic products. There’s still quite a back-log of orders, but I’m catching up.”

Turns out Zoom was no stranger to the USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center in Los Angeles where the founding X member received treatment. Zoom has regularly appeared at annual Johnny Ramone Benefit fundraisers for the center, making his patient status at the facility a somewhat ironic turn of events.

Now Zoom is urging men to get annual prostate exams, noting that one of out of six American men will most probably find themselves in similar situations. For more information, click here for the USC Westside Prostate Center and here for Billy Zoom’s website.
