Islanders On The Move

The NHL’s New York Islanders, which have been seeking a new alternative to Nassau Coliseum, might have one someday next to the home of the New York Mets.

“We’ve had discussions with the Islanders – in addition to those we’ve had with Major League Soccer – about building a sports/entertainment facility near Citi Field,” the Mets said in a statement May 12.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he has yet to speak to the Mets’ owners but is open to the possibility.

The Islanders’ owner, Charles Wang, has grown frustrated with the lack of action on his proposal to get local government to approve a development plan that would give the team a new arena.

The hockey team recently played a preseason game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, which is seeking an NHL team.
