Womad Secure For Two More Years

World music arts and dance festival Womad NZ will stay at its home in Taranaki, New Zealand, until 2013, Taranaki Arts Festival Trust chief executive Suzanne Porter announced.

The event struggled to break even until this year and a plan was considered to alternate it between Taranaki and another city. This year Womad NZ attracted 32,940 fans over three days and injected NZ$7.02 million into the local economy.

Porter said that a commitment by the festival’s partners allowed Womad to stay put, and increase its artists fees and marketing.
