What’s The Matter?

Matter, the three-story, 2,600-capacity superclub within The O2 complex in London, is shutting down for the summer and Pollstar understands the owners are fighting to keep the business going.

Matter London Ltd. issued a statement confirming the venue is “temporarily closed over the summer period with a view to re-launching later in the year.”

The first London venue to be purpose-built for live music and club events, Matter is the brainchild of the team behind Fabric, one of the capital’s most popular nightclubs.

It opened two years ago with a state-of-the-art sound system, stunning visual capabilities and a blank canvas setup capable of handling everything from corporate events to large-scale club nights.

However, a notice published in the London Gazette said Matter London Ltd., the firm that runs the venue, would be wound up “unless cause is shown to the contrary within three months.”

Accounts for 2008, the first year of trading, showed the company lost more than £1 million. The same accounts showed Matter London Ltd. owed more than £3 million to various creditors.
