Supporting Scorpions
During the first few weeks of this year the Scorpions announced on its website that the band would release one more studio album before hitting the road for a farewell tour. The album, Sting In The Tail, sold like, well, all past Scorpions albums, shooting up the charts while at the same time producing another hit single for the band, “Raised On Rock”
When announcing its swan song the band promised a final bow predicted to run over the next few years before releasing a torrent of tour dates that stretch through November 2010.
But while it’s easy to remember the Scorpions’ “Get Your Sting And Blackout” tour is coming to your town, keeping track of who’s supporting can get a bit confusing. Lots of bands are joining Klaus Meine & Company, and you really need to take a few notes if you’re particular about which Scorpion show you want to see. Thankfully, the band has been as meticulous about listing its support information as it is about promoting its final tour.
Here’s how the support schedule is shaping up for the band’s North America run.
Cinderella: June 18-22, 25-July 5, 8, 24, 29-Aug. 3 & 17
Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil: June 23
Great White: July 6
Ratt: July 10-23 & Aug. 4
Tesla: July 26-27; Tesla with Jackyl: Aug. 16
Dokken: Aug. 6-7 & 20
The Michael Schenker Group: Aug. 21
There are still a few openings on the support slot as the band lists local support for Aug. 9 in Calgary and Aug. 10 in Edmonton and references the ever-popular TBA for Aug. 13-14 at Sturgis, S.D., and Billings, Mont., respectively.
Scorpions were honored at the World Music Awards at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club last month, receiving the Rock Legend Award. Earlier this year the band was inducted into Guitar Center’s Rock Walk in Los Angeles.
