As bizarre as some of the contestants can sometimes be (not to mention the judges – what’s up Hoff?), NBC’s “AGT” is actually a pretty entertaining way to spend an hour or two on a summer evening.

This year’s crop of hopefuls has run the gamut from an adorable moppet (5 and 9!) hip-hop dance team to a scary “singing teacher” who lives in Belgium and talks like the late-great character actor Victor Buono to the Chainsaw Chicks (yeah, it’s what you think).

But so far not one act can hold a candle to a 32-year-old New York City store clerk who goes by the name of “Prince Poppycock.”

It was one hundred percent clear from the moment he took the stage that something – interesting – was going to happen. And boy did it.

Sharon Osbourne clearly got it immediately. Piers Morgan, who’s British and can be kind of cranky but never goes anywhere near Simon Cowell territory, looked like he was about to have to eat a worm sandwich. And new judge Howie Mandel, who’s proving himself to be an exceptionally fair and balanced – not to mention sane and sober – judge, just looked confused.

And then “Prince Poppycock” started singing.

Now that’s entertainment! If there are any label execs out there reading this, here’s a tip: Sign this guy immediately. Don’t wait to see if he wins. Sign him now. You can thank me later.
