“Forever Michael” takes place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., June 26, the day after the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death.

Jackson died June 25, 2009, with the coroner ruling his death a homicide caused by acute propofol intoxication, with other sedatives a contributing factor. He was 50 years old.

The red carpet event is being presented by social networking site VoicePlate Productions along with The Jackson Family Foundation.

In a video posted on YouTube, Katherine thanks VoicePlate for honoring her son by putting on the event.

“I know that Michael would be very honored and very pleased that his fans all over the world are coming together to celebrate his life,” she said. “And I’d also like to thank friends all over the world for the love and support that they have given me and my family this last year. … We all love you. And if Michael was here he’d say I love you more.”

Joseph Fahmy, the tribute’s organizer and CEO of the Los Angeles-based VoicePlate, also appears in the video, announcing the release of Katherine’s new Michael Jackson coffee table book, “Never Can Say Goodbye.”

Fahmy told the Associated Press that Katherine’s support “just rescued me” after dealing with negative press and rumors that the event wasn’t authorized.

“The Jacksons are so private, and, really, I was going to allow the press to just say what they were going to say, and take the beating from the press, just to give [the Jacksons] their privacy.

“Towards the end here, Mrs. Jackson just said, ‘I need to clear the air for you, because you ‘re doing such a wonderful thing.’ And she was just one of the sweetest ladies you could ever meet.”

The “Forever Michael” event includes performances by the Chi-Lites and Genevieve Jackson, Michael Jackson’s niece and the daughter of the singer’s youngest brother, Randy Jackson.

A statement on VoicePlate’s website explains that the event will be “dedicated to the humanitarian efforts of Michael Jackson” with the vision “to bring together Michael Jackson family members, celebrities, fans, supporters and the community to celebrate and honor his legacy.”

Tickets are priced between $150 and $500. A portion of the proceeds will go to Jackson Family Foundation and the King of Pop’s favorite charities.
