Probation For Lil’ Wayne
Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., appeared in court via a video hookup connecting New York with Arizona.
The probation, brought about by a plea deal, means Wayne will not have to serve any time in an Arizona prison, according to Reuters.
The drug possession charge dates back to Jan. 2008 when Wayne’s tour bus was stopped by Border Patrol authorities. Claiming to have been alerted by drug-sniffing dogs, the authorities searched the bus, discovering almost a quarter-pound of marijuana, 41 grams of Ecstasy and an ounce of cocaine as well as a .40-caliber pistol registered to Wayne.
Wayne’s Arizona lawyer, James Tilson, said he was pleased with today’s sentencing.
“We’re quite glad that we were able to wrap everything up,” Tilson told Reuters. “It’s a favorable plea agreement that will allow Mr. Carter to pursue his career.”
