Madina Lake Band Member Hospitalized After Assault
Reports indicate Leone was coming to the aid of a woman who was being assaulted by her husband in a West Town neighborhood street early Tuesday morning, according to the Chicago Breaking News website.
“Matthew saw something he didn’t like to see and tried to step in and the guy turned on him instead, but then the two of them (the couple) walked off together like nothing happened,” said an unidentified police officer, according to the website.
Nathan Leone, Matthew’s twin brother and lead singer in Madina Lake, said he had planned to meet his brother at a local bar, and arrived to see his brother trying to stop the husband from hitting his wife.
“As he stepped away to call the police, the guy jumped him from behind and beat him severely, said Nathan Leone. “Him and his wife left my brother unconscious on the street and took off.”
Police eventually arrested a 33-year-old man for simple domestic assault, but have not yet charged him, or anyone, for beating the musician.
According to Nathan Leon, doctors removed a portion of his brother’s skull to alleviate swelling. The bassist remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.
“He’s conscious and talking and making sense, which he was not originally,” Nathan Leon said. “I think he’s improving on an hourly basis.”
