Lil Wayne – New Letter/New EP

He was sentenced to a year in jail for attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a 2007 incident aboard his tour bus. The Grammy-award winning artist is serving his sentence in New York’s Rikers Island jail complex and is expected to be released after as early as eight months for good behavior.

In “Letter # 4: As Time Flies,” which was posted July 13 on WeezyThanxYou.com, Lil Wayne explains that he’s “counting the days and still smiling” thanks to hearing his kids’ voices over the phone and reading his fan mail.

“Let me just say that I have the best fans in the world! The devotion, dedication, support, love, and most of all, prayers are simply the best. I never imagined that I could have such an impact on people’s lives. Because of this, I vow to be a bit more careful of what I say,” the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., wrote.

Lil Wayne gives fans the rundown on his daily routine, which he starts with some coffee after waking up around 11 a.m.

“Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That’s my day.”

The rapper says he’s been writing lyrics in jail, explaining that “there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair.” 

Cortez Bryant, Lil Wayne’s co-manager and Young Money CEO, told Vibe.com that fans will get to hear the new tunes sooner rather than later.

“I’m putting out a [Wayne] album called I’m Not A Human Being and I’ll probably drop it on his birthday, Sept. 27,” Bryant said.

Vibe notes that the EP will feature all new Weezy material as a preview to Tha Carter IV.

“We not about to roll out no three month set up,” says Bryant. “I’m not even putting it out in stores. We just gonna put it out virally and maybe package it up for Christmas. Give ’em a hard copy later for fan appreciation.”

MTV.com reports that, according to prison records, Lil Wayne is expected to be released from jail Nov. 4.
