Steven Tyler – International Man Of Mystery
The Aerosmith frontman has been getting a lot of attention today. This morning a Hollywood blogger claimed the singer had closed a deal to become American Idol’s new judge. But as the day progressed, Tyler watchers focused on a short video clip depicting him falling off a stage runway last night, with many viewers openly speculating as to whether guitarist Perry had a hand in it.
Nikki Finke, whose Deadline Hollywood blog is a must-read in Tinsel Town, posted an item earlier today claiming the “deal is done” to seat Tyler as the newest judge on American Idol. So far, Tyler’s representatives have not commented but Finke quotes Michael Ferrel, CEO of American Idol producer CKX, as saying Fox won’t announce the show’s new judges until Sept. 6. So this is one Tyler tidbit that may not receive an official confirmation until after Labor Day.
Meanwhile, last night during an Aerosmith gig at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, Tyler fell off a stage runway, leading many to suspect Perry might have had something to do with the tumble.
It was during the early portion of last night’s concert when Perry seemingly bumped Tyler off the platform and into the audience. At this point, according to the Toronto Sun, Tyler told the audience “It ain’t gonna happen again, baby” – believed to be a reference to last year’s tumble off the stage in Sturgis, S.D., an incident that resulted in injuries leading to the cancellation of last year’s world tour.
Then Tyler, who was apparently not injured in the fall, reportedly told Perry, “You will pay for that, my brother” – a quote being interpreted by the press as yet more bickering between the once-nicknamed Toxic Twins.
TMZ posted video of last night’s tumble in which you can clearly see Tyler bump Perry followed by Perry returning the favor. Click here to see all the action.
So, what do you think? Will Tyler make a good judge on American Idol? Did Perry’s bumping really knock him off the stage? Feel free to drop a few thoughts in the comment thread below.
