Global’s Out Of Allen

The city-owned Allen Event Center in Texas is now city-operated as well after a company pulled out of its deal to oversee the facility.

Global Entertainment Corp. recently told city officials it wanted out of its management deal, the Dallas Morning News reported, and officials didn’t object.

“We were disappointed in the level of activity in the building,” city manager Pete Vargas told the paper. “We felt it was not being utilized to its full potential.”

The 7,300-capacity venue opened with a bang last fall with a Reba concert, but apparently the rest of the schedule didn’t fare as well. Vargas said the center hadn’t generated any profits thus far.

Despite its early stumble, Vargas said officials expect the venue will become self-sustaining.

“It’s a tremendous asset,” he said. “It will provide affordable entertainment for a long time.”

Allen officials are expected to decide whether to self-manage or hire another group to operate the venue later this month, the Morning News said.

Representatives for Global Entertainment did not respond to requests for comment at press time.
