Sweet Child O’ Time

The clock will be ticking for Guns N’ Roses’ U.K. festival appearances this weekend, as the events’ promoter warns that the band must start on time – or don’t start at all.

Axl Rose & Company are scheduled to play Britain’s Friday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 29. The man in charge of both events, Melvin Benn – told Brit music publication NME that the band must be prompt at both festivals.

“It’s just not an option,” Benn told NME. “I mean, it is certainly an option for them to go on late, but that for me is just about disrespecting their fans. There isn’t an option for them to carry on late, though.”

Turns out Benn’s comments about Guns N’ Roses aren’t necessarily worrywart concerns that the band might choose to operate within its own unique time zone. GNR was one hour late when it appeared at Leeds in 2002.

“Unfortunately, [this year] the police and the local authorities in particular have reaffirmed their position to me that the curfew has to be adhered to,” Benn said. “It’s 11 p.m. at Leeds and it’s 11:30 p.m. at Reading. The truth is that I can’t allow the performance to go on beyond that – it’s just that simple.”
