Insomniac Inc. filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit on Friday, according to Los Angeles Times blog L.A. Now. Insomniac was the company behind the Electric Daisy Carnival held at the Coliseum in June. The event received widespread criticism from police and city officials claiming drug use was rampant at the two-day event.

However, Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella questioned whether city officials were discriminating against electronic music events.

“This is a concert and it should be treated in the same manner as any other concert held in Los Angeles,” Rotella said in a statement.

More than an estimated 180,000 people attended the Electric Daisy Carnival at the Coliseum in late June. The death of a 15-year-old girl from a suspected drug overdose as well as reports of other drug-related problems resulted in Los Angeles city officials taking a closer look at raves occurring within the city’s borders.
