Whitesnake last toured in August 2009. The band was forced to cancel its remaining tour dates with Judas Priest because Coverdale’s voice wasn’t up to par at the time.
Denver radio station KNAC reported that Coverdale made the announcement in the middle of the band’s August 11, 2009, gig at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo.
The singer told fans “that he felt he wasn’t quite over his laryngitis he had been suffering from and could sing no longer,” according to KNAC.
“I’m sorry,” Coverdale told the audience. “I tried, I just can’t do it.”
