Mullen Loses Brazilian Lawsuit

U2’s Larry Mullen Jr. has apparently lost a civil lawsuit in a Brazilian court and is liable for about US$480,000 to promoter Franco Bruni.

The matter involves a U2 concert in Brazil in 1998. In 2000, Mullen said in an interview that the band was never paid for the concert.

A few days later, the band’s management said Mullen was mistaken, according to fan website @U2. Bruni had indeed paid the band its performance fee but hadn’t paid money related to “author’s rights.”

The Jan. 21 ruling acquitted Bono, who was alongside Mullen in the interview, but found a Brazilian journalist and Brazilian media company InfoGlobo guilty, according to @U2.
