Judge: Jackson’s Family Can Sue AEG

A judge has ruled that Michael Jackson’s mother can sue entertainment giant AEG on behalf of the singer’s family, allowing her to claim that the concert promoter was responsible for medical decisions that led to Jackson’s death.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette M. Palazuelos on Feb. 2 denied AEG’s motion to dismiss the suit on grounds that Jackson was responsible for his own medical care and hired Dr. Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the pop star’s death.

City News Service says the judge ruled that Jackson family lawyers will have to show evidence of fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy.

The judge gave Jackson family lawyers 20 days to amend the complaint.
