PETA To Janet: Fur Shame!
PETA protestors outside Jackson’s Feb. 4 concert in Pasay City.
They demonstrated outside the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City prior to the singer’s Feb. 4 concert, the opening date on her worldwide “Up Close and Personal” tour.
The activists were dressed as Grim Reapers and carried signs saying “Fur is dead” and “Fur shame” to protest Jackson’s role as the latest celebrity in the long-running “What Becomes a Legend Most?” campaign for luxury furrier Blackglama.
In ads for the company, Jackson is seen wearing a black fur coat.
A PETA rep said the group wanted to make Jackson aware of the impact of the killing of animals around the world, which contributes to the loss of biodiversity.
Representatives of the tour reportedly met with PETA but did not disclose to the content of the discussion.
Local media say the concert was sold out about a month after it was announced.
