Night Of The Proms Goes Nordic
The annual Night Of The Proms series that’s proved a successful crowd-puller in Belgium, Germany and France will make its Danish debut at Arena Nord in Frederikshaven April 2.
Jan Van Esbroeck and Jan Vereecke, who were Belgian students when they started NOTP in 1984, have developed the concept of the “all-singing, all-dancing celebration of music through the ages” to the point where more than 8 million people have seen it.
Over the years the lineup has included such acts as Joe Cocker, Meat Loaf, Sting, Bryan Ferry, Andrea Bocelli, Deborah Harry, James Brown, Cliff Richard, John Fogerty, Shaggy and The Pointer Sisters.
In Denmark Van Esbroeck and Vereecke will be working with Niels Estrup of Owit Music Europe.
Estrup, who started his company in 1999, says he first heard of Night Of The Proms when the Danish act Safri Duo appeared in the show.
Since then he’s booked acts on to the bill and that’s helped build the bond between NOTP and Owit.
Estrup is so convinced the show will prove a success in Scandinavia that he’s already working on three more Danish dates and another in Sweden for 2012.
The lineup for the first Danish NOTP will include Simple Minds, Kim Wilde, DIV4S, John Miles and Danish artist Allan Olsen.
