Billy Ray And Satan

In a new interview with GQ, Billy Ray Cyrus says “Hannah Montana” destroyed his family. The singer also points a finger at Satan and discusses his fear that his daughter Miley might end up like Kurt Cobain or Michael Jackson.

Miley and her father co-starred on the Disney Channel show “Hannah Montana,” playing a teenage singer and her father/manager, from March 2006 through Jan. 2011.

Cyrus made it clear that although he played Miley’s manager on the show, he’s “never made a dime” from his daughter. Although he’s proud of that fact, one thing he’s not so happy about is how he’s had to deal with the press.

“Every time something happened in Miley’s career, every time the train went off the track, if you will – Vanity Fair, pole-dancing, whatever scandal it was – her people, or as they say in today’s news, her handlers, every time they’d put me … ‘Somebody’s shooting at Miley! Put the old man up there!’ Well, I took it, because I’m her daddy, and that’s what daddies do. … See, I’ve not been able to have a voice.”

The interview took place five days after the video of Miley smoking a bong at her 18th birthday party surfaced online.
Cyrus said he refused to attend that party because the party was being held in a bar.

“Once again all them people, they all wanted me to fly out so that then when all the bad press came they could say, ‘Daddy endorsed this stuff …’ I started realizing I’m being used.”

The singer told GQ that after he and his family relocated to Los Angeles from Tennessee so Miley could star on “Hannah Montana,” he and his daughter noticed a highway billboard sign located on the way to the studio. The adopt-a-highway sign noted that the stretch of highway was sponsored by Atheists United.

“A physical sign. It could have easily said ‘You will now be attacked by Satan,’” Cyrus told GQ. “‘Entering this industry, you are now on the highway to darkness…’”

Cyrus blames “Hannah Montana” for the turmoil in his daughter’s life and the breakup of his marriage.

“I’ll tell you right now – the damn show destroyed my family … I’d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck yeah, I’d erase it all in a second if I could.”

Cyrus also talked about meeting Kurt Cobain outside a venue late one night and how they bonded over their daughters.

“One more thing about Kurt – Kurt was one of those guys. That’s why I’m concerned about Miley. I think that his world was just spinning so fast and he had so many people around him that didn’t help him. … I’m her daddy so maybe I’m a little sensitive to it, but now’s a real good time to make sure everything’s okay. An ounce of prevention’s worth a pound of cure.”
