Law Nabs Boston HoB

Longtime New England promoter Don Law, wearing his Boston Opera Ventures hat, is reportedly buying 50 percent of the Boston House of Blues from Live Nation.

The deal will be a partnership with Joe Dunne and Declan Mehigan, with whom he already co-owns the city’s Paradise and Brighton Music Hall, which were also purchased from Live Nation.

According to the Boston Globe, they will form a new group called Crossroads Presents to operate the HoB, where they plan to make some changes. Boston’s House of Blues, not to be confused with the original HoB in Cambridge, opened a few years ago in the space previously occupied by the Avalon and Axis clubs on Landsdowne Street.

The current space caps out at 2,400 but can be scaled down to 1,000.

Last year, it topped Pollstar’s Top Clubs chart with nearly 315,000 tickets sold.

“We hope to add to the experience,” Dunne told the Globe. “We want to give it more of a local feel than a corporate feel. We hope to do away with any cookie-cutter aspect.”

Terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed and the Globe reports there are some licensing issues yet to be resolved.
