Foos For Earthquake Benefit?

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recorded a message for Auckland radio station The Edge in which he sent “hopes and prayers” and asked fans to donate to the earthquake appeal.

“Every little bit counts and I hope that we can see you soon and do what we can to bring a little bit of happiness back into your lives,” he said.

Grohl will be in the region when Foo Fighters play a secret show in Sydney March 24. The Foos last played in NZ in 2008.

In the meantime, London-based soprano Hayley Westenra has canceled a New Zealand tour. She will devote her energies to setting up a huge fundraising show in Auckland for victims, and also play a free show in her hometown Christchurch to raise morale.

Another NZ expatriate, Australian-based R&B singer Emily Williams who was runner-up on “Australian Idol” in 2005, has written a song “Never Alone” inspired by the tragedy. It available on iTunes with all proceeds going to quake relief.

Christian rock band United have been collecting money and non-perishable goods at each of their shows during their current U.S. tour.

Christchurch band Opshop scrapped the video for its new single “Love Will Always Win.” It featured people running down the street and cars on fire. Instead, the band is encouraging fans to upload messages for Christchurch residents on their website, which will be included in their video.
