The 87-minute feature film will be shown at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival as a work-in-progress. The 10th annual festival is set for April 20 through May 1 in New York City.

Kings Of Leon features brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, along with their cousin Matthew Followill. The bandmates are listed as the primary cast in the film in addition to being the executive producers. The documentary is directed by Stephen C. Mitchell.

“Talihina Sky” takes its name from the title of a hidden track on the band’s debut album, 2003’s Youth and Young Manhood.

A synopsis posted on Tribeca Film Festival’s website promises that the documentary will provide insight for fans and non-fans alike in explaining just exactly who are the Kings of Leon.

“Known now as an all-American rock-and-roll band with millions of fans around the world, the Kings of Leon remind us that they will never forget their strict Pentecostal upbringing or rough-and-tumble backcountry roots,” the synopsis says.

A trailer for the film includes interview footage with the Followill brothers’ father, Ivan Followill. The former United Pentecostal Church preacher shares his thoughts on his sons’ journey from churchgoers to rowdy rock-n-rollers. The trailer depicts the Followill boys’ new lifestyle with plenty of drugs, alcohol and other antics.

“Talihina Sky” is being screened at BMCC Tribeca PAC (April 21), AMC Loews Village 7 (April 22 and 28), and Clearview Cinemas Chelsea 7 (April 30). Tickets go on sale to the general public April 18. American Express cardmembers get first dibs with an April 12 presale.
