Music Hall Overhaul Postponed

A makeover of Cincinnati’s historic Music Hall is being delayed one year to give designers and overseers more time to get ready for the renovation.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Music Hall Revitalization Company is announcing Thursday that the 133-year-old arts venue will close in May 2013 for the work to begin. The previous plan was to shut down Music Hall in May 2012.

Officials hope for an October 2014 reopening, after construction estimated to cost $100 million.

Revitalization Company President Jack Rouse tells the Enquirer the project is being postponed so design drawings and documentation can be completed and to allow enough time for contract bidding and negotiating.

The Music Hall overhaul will be its first major renovation in 40 years.
