New Licensing For NZ Gyms

PPNZ, which negotiates fees for recorded music played in public, has struck a three-year deal with fitness industry association Fitness NZ.

The year-long negotiations see the new scheme based on club membership.

Gyms using background music pay 50 cents per member per annum, those using music for a group fitness classes pay 50 cents per member per annum.

Those using it for background and group classes pay $1 per member. The scheme also introduces new rates for personal trainers who run less than three classes a week and independent trainers operating outside fitness centers.
