Alice Cooper In 4-D
The “Jägermeister Ice Cold Event” will be held May 11 at Battersea Power Station in London featuring Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith, Michael Bruce and Steve Hunter filling in for the late Glen Buxton.
4-D events combine 3-D images with physical effects. The London Evening Standard reports that the gig, which will beamed in from a Hollywood studio, will feature 4D elements including balloons, feathers, icy blasts and holographic snow.
“We couldn’t resist this,” Alice said in a statement. “Appearing as holograms on the other side of the Atlantic is the ultimate theatre, a cutting edge conjuring trick that celebrates the future and our history. We can’t wait to see the results.”
Holograms are nothing new for Cooper. In 1973 Salvador Dali paid homage to the singer by making him the subject of the world’s first 3-D hologram piece of art.
In addition to Cooper and the band, the May 11 event will also feature some live, in person acts. DJ Zane Lowe is hosting the event and playing an exclusive DJ set, along with sets from XFM DJs Eddy Temple Morris and Ian Camfield. The King Blues will also perform.
The 4-D gig celebrates the release of The Original Alice Cooper Group Super Deluxe Box Set – Old School: 1956-1974. The package, which will be available June 6, comes in a 12” school desk with four CDs featuring unheard demos, pre-production and rehearsal recordings of classic tunes, radio spots, interview clips and a full live show from Cooper’s 1971 Killer tour.
There’s also a 12” bootleg LP of the 1971 St. Louis show, a 7” single by The Nazz (the group’s original moniker), a DVD produced exclusively for the set about the history of the band, a 64-page yearbook, ticket stubs, and an original live set list replica.
The “Jägermeister Ice Cold Event” is limited to fans in the United Kingdom. The liquor brand is giving away 800 tickets through its UK Facebook page.
