Prohibition Gay Club Opens In AC

While gay nightclubs have come and gone during the history of Atlantic City, N.J., the owners of a revamped hotel property have introduced a first for the gambling Mecca – a permanent gay nightclub inside a casino.

Resorts Casino Hotel opened the doors May 5 on the 300-capacity Prohibition club, which is styled in tune with the property’s recent Roaring ’20s renovations. Gaming analyst Cory Morowitz told the Press of Atlantic City the casino’s move to embrace all segments of the gaming market is a solid one.

“The strategy to go after different or niche markets is the right strategy for a property like Resorts,” Morowitz said. “Atlantic City is a very competitive place and everybody is fighting after the same customers. If you can draw a market that is currently underserved and become known as a place where those markets are catered to, that’s a way to differentiate yourself.”

Atlantic City isn’t the first to feature a gay nightclub in a casino, however. Krave Nightclub at the Planet Hollywood casino in Las Vegas has been around since 2003.
