Rapper Cassidy Arrested For Probation Violation

Philadelphia police say a local rap artist was arrested over the weekend in New Jersey on a probation violation but is not wanted for any other offense in the city.

Police said May 16 that 28-year-old Cassidy, whose real name is Barry Reese, was taken into custody May 14 by Hackensack police on a probation violation in connection with a previous aggravated assault case in Philadelphia.

Police said the probation violation was “for non-reporting only” and the rapper “is not wanted for any other crime/violation in Philadelphia.”

Reese is being held in Bergen County Prison awaiting extradition to Philadelphia.

Cassidy served time in prison on 2006 convictions of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault in what prosecutors called the planned ambush of a man who had argued with the musician’s friends.
