The upcoming dates are being promoted as “sneak preview” tours. The “Yeah Basically Cibo Matto” summer trek will feature a West Coast leg followed by a round of East Coast and Midwest dates. The fun begins June 21 at Neumos in Seattle. Dates are scheduled through a July 20 gig at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall.
Cibo Matto has also lined up shows in Portland, Ore., at Doug Fir Lounge (June 23); San Francisco at Bimbo’s 365 Club (June 25); Brooklyn Bowl in New York (July 12); Chicago’s Lincoln Hall (July 14); New York’s Bowery Ballroom (July 18); and Washington, DC, at Rock And Roll Hotel (July 19).
Canadian gigs include stops at Vancouver’s Fortune Sound Club (June 22) and Toronto’s The Mod Club Theatre.
The duo has booked another show benefiting Japan Earthquake Relief. On June 26 Cibo Matto appears with Yellow Magic Orchestra for “Big in Japan” at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. Additional artists include Buffalo Daughter and Towa Tei.
Cibo Matto, which takes its name from an Italian phrase for “crazy food,” is working on material for an upcoming album expected to be released in early 2012.
In 1995 the duo released a self-titled EP followed by their 1996 debut album, Viva! La Woman. Sean Lennon and Timo Ellis were featured on Cibo Matto’s 1997 EP Super Relax and most recent album, 1999’s Stereo Type A.
