Juanes, Silverchair Talk Hiatus
Juanes posted a series of tweets yesterday addressing rumors about his retirement and his relationship with his longtime manager. (The tweets quoted in this story were originally written in Spanish and then translated to English by a bilingual speaker.)
“Of course I’d never retire from music, never that. I’ve just decided to take a small [break] to dedicate some time for my family and me,” Juanes wrote.
“I’m tweeting you guys from the studio, I keep making music every day, I just need some time for reflection and calm so that I could continue!”
The singer noted that although he recently canceled several shows in the U.S., he’ll be in Spain soon and that he’ll tour “the rest of Latin America afterward for sure!”
Juanes confirmed that he’s no longer working with his manager, writing, “it’s true that my professional relationship with Fernan [Martinez] has ended.” As far as a career move into the world of politics – Juanes said that was a joke.
Spanish tour dates are scheduled July 15-30. The canceled U.S. dates were originally set to take place in October.

Silverchair also had some big news to reveal to fans. In a post on the group’s website dated May 25, Silverchair announced the band is going on hiatus.
“We formed Silverchair nearly 20 years ago when we were just 12 years old. Today we stand by the same rules now as we did back then … if the band stops being fun and if it’s no longer fulfilling creatively, then we need to stop.
“Therefore after much soul searching we wanted to let you know that we’re putting Silverchair into ‘indefinite hibernation’ and we’ve decided to each do our own thing for the foreseeable future. … This means that Silverchair won’t be making music together or playing shows any time soon. It also means that the three of us won’t be working together unless and until it feels right again.”
Silverchair released five albums between 1995 and 2007, including the band’s most recent album, 2007’s Young Modern. The band last performed in May 2010.
