You can blame the shuttering on budget cuts and low attendance. At one time it was projected the Georgia Hall of Fame would draw 100,000 visitors annually, but reality proved to be a little less optimistic with the museum receiving approximately 25,000 people per year, according to Reuters.

The Hall of Fame was subsidized by the state’s legislature. However “was” is the operative word because the legislature voted to drop all funding for the museum as of July 1.

The decision was made on Tuesday when the museum’s governing board voted to shut down the Hall of Fame. Plans call for the museum’s collection of memorabilia to be moved to state colleges including the University of Georgia.
