Some Day For Justin Bieber
Bieber was at Macy’s in Herald Square earlier today for an event promoting his new fragrance called Someday.
The New York Daily News, which has now updated its story, initially ran with the headline “Bieber Beaten, attacked by man in Midtown.” The New York Post initially reported that when Bieber went outside Macy’s to greet a crowd of fans, a man jumped over a barricade and knocked down the 17-year-old singer, who suffered a minor injury.
WABC-TV reports that the man may have actually been a plainclothes police officer trying to help Bieber. Numerous sources – including TMZ.com, New York Daily News and the New York Post – back up this claim.
The New York Post’s updated story says that the undercover officer jumped toward the singer to try and help get him back into the department store. Because Bieber didn’t know who the man was, the singer shoved him back.
“It was a momentary well-intentioned misunderstanding and the event went well,” Bieber’s spokesman Matthew Hiltzik said, according to the Post. “He’s completely fine and has no injuries.”
Bieber and the undercover officer weren’t the only men at today’s promotional event who made headlines.
The Associated Press reports that a 47-year-old man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct involving an incident with Bieber. The AP says that police didn’t release details about the incident or the man’s name.
A number of sources each have their own theories as to why the man was issued a summons.
The New York Post says one of Bieber’s security guards named Moshe Benabou was cited for disorderly conduct after he wouldn’t “get out of the way or move fast enough” so the singer could get back in Macy’s.
According to NBC New York, the security guard was issued a summons after having “words with a police office” who had asked the singer’s security staff to get Bieber back in Macy’s.
TMZ.com says the security officer was issued a summons for grabbing a police officer. The gossip site claims that the security officer grabbed the plainclothes police officer who was trying to help Justin.
Whatever the real reason the man was issued a summons, the important thing is that police told the Associated Press the singer was not injured. That’s all that really matters, right?
