Pending city approval, the band, along with special guests The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, will perform Sept. 8-9 at Fenway with proceeds going to the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund benefiting families living in the state whose members were victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The concerts will also benefit the band’s Claddagh Fund.  Established by Dropkick Murphy’s founder Ken Casey, The Claddagh Fund helps to make the world a better place by supporting non-profit organizations going to bat for children, veterans and those suffering alcohol and drug addiction.

The stage won’t be too far from the 36-foot left field wall affectionately dubbed “The Green Monster” that has robbed hitters of home runs since the ballpark opened in 1912. The Dropkick Murphys and special guests The Mighty Mighty Bosstones will perform on a stage set atop the bullpens in right field.

Although Dropkick Murphys have played Fenway before, the September shows will mark the first time the band has performed full concerts at the stadium, putting the Celtic punk group on the same star-heavy list occupied by such notables as Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Jimmy Buffett, Neil Diamond, The Police, The Rolling Stones, J Geils Band, Aerosmith and Phish.

“Dropkick Murphys have permeated Boston and New England sports culture, particularly here at Fenway Park where ‘I’m Shipping Up To Boston’ has long signaled Jonathan Papelbon’s trip to the mound,” Red Sox Executive VP/COO Sam Kennedy said in a statement. “The band has debuted songs here, been part of our rallies and shared in our joy during the 2007 World Series parade. We are thrilled to be hosting them this coming September and look forward to also helping local 9/11 charities through this concert.”

Expect opening acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for both shows go up July 7 at high noon EDT. Visit DropkickMurphys.com for more information.
