Majestic Still Vegas Bound

Ed Roski Jr.’s Majestic Realty, which wants to build a sports/entertainment stadium on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, is still ready to go forward whether it gets help from lawmakers or not.

Majestic asked the Nevada Legislature for a University Enterprise District, a district near the facility that would collect taxes that would cover the bonds to help pay for the $600 million stadium. The bill did not pass.

“That wasn’t an absolute requirement to have this project work and be successful,” Majestic’s Craig Cavileer told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “It doesn’t deter us now. It doesn’t stop us.”

The stadium is designed by architect Dan Meis, who created the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and would have hydraulic tracks that would expand the facility from 7,500 to 40,000 seats, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The project also includes 5,000 to 10,000 units of student housing.

The project is one of three under consideration. AEG is working with Caesars Entertainment to build a 20,000 seater east of the Strip, and Las Vegas has asked Cordish Co. to build an arena downtown.
