Fire At Ralph Engelstad Arena

A small fire caused $1.5 million in damage to the 12,000-capacity Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D., July 3.

University of North Dakota police noticed burning material on the upper catwalk, and more than two dozen firefighters arrived to heavy smoke.

Grand Forks Fire Department Capt. Bruce Weymier said firefighters poured 150 gallons of water onto the flames for four minutes.

Firefighters believe a speaker caught fire and fell onto the ice. The arena suffered smoke damage and damage to electronics and ice.
