Radiohead Enters China Web

Last week, Radiohead launched a page on a microblogging website at Chinese Internet portal Sina.com.

The move marks the band’s first foray into Chinese cyberspace, and so far they have only posted one message, which read, “Testing the weibo.” Weibo is the name of the microblogging service, which is similar to Twitter.

Radiohead has been associated with elements critical of China’s human rights record.

The band once performed at a Free Tibet concert and has called for the release of Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.

Chinese censors regularly screen content on the Internet for material it may find offensive to its political sensibilities. Blogs are required to delete posts that the censors question.
