Three Detained In Cabral Slaying

A Guatemalan investigator says three men have been detained in last week’s slaying of Argentine folk singer Facundo Cabral.

He says the suspects are seen in hotel surveillance videos following Nicaraguan businessmen Henry Farinas, who was driving Cabral to the airport when they were ambushed Saturday.

The investigator is not authorized to be quoted by name. He says Farinas was the apparent target of the ambush. Farinas was wounded and Cabral died.

Cabral’s body was brought home to his native Argentina from Guatemala Tuesday on a Mexican Air Force jet.

Cabral rose to fame in the early 1970s as part of a generation of singers who mixed political protest with literary lyrics.
