CBGB Brand For Sale

The estate of the late Hillel “Hilly” Kristal, who died in 2007, is reportedly putting the CBGB brand up for sale.

Steambank LLC, the company handling the auction, told Bloomberg that intellectual property included in the sale are trademarks, domain names, recordings and artifacts.

The NYC club known as the birthplace of punk rock closed after Kristal lost the lease in 2006.

Investor group CBGB Holdings had purchased the copyright to the club and all intellectual property, domestic and international trademarks, copyrights, video and audio libraries, ongoing apparel business, physical property and the club’s website in 2008 for $3.5 million.

However, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June 2010. The estate foreclosed on CBGB Holdings and regained all property after a bankruptcy judge’s ruling later in the year.

A date for the auction has yet to be announced.
