Quake Appeal Leads To Cancellation

The effects of February’s earthquakes in New Zealand are still being felt.

The annual Lower Hutt Christmas Spectacular, which drew 30,000 last December, has been canceled.

Organiser Darryn Gadd said it needed $100,000 worth of sponsorship but businesses had contributed all spare cash to the quake appeal.

The local council contributed $45,000 but the event costs $200,000.
