The announcement outlining the tour proudly proclaims “Weird Al” to be the “world’s biggest selling comedy recording artist of all time,” making us flashback more than 30 years to when the aspiring accordionist / jokester began making appearances on Dr. Demento’s radio program when he was still a student at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Yes, it seems like only yesterday when “Weird Al” was serving up the funny with song parodies like “Another One Rides The Bus” and “My Bologna.”

Touring in support of Alpocalypse, his first album in five years, “Weird Al” promises to dig deep into his catalog as well as serve up a few new ones, like “Perform This Way,” his much-lauded take-off of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

The tour begins in N. Las Vegas at the Cannery Casino and Hotel Sept. 10. Other stops include Salt Lake City for the Utah State fair Sept. 12; Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House Sept. 20; Mobile, Ala., at Saenger Theatre Sept. 28; Atlanta at Cobb Energy Center Oct. 1; Boston’s Orpheum Theatre Oct. 15 and Morristown, N.J., at Mayo Performing Arts Center Oct. 21.
