Ottawa Stage Collapse Update
More details are emerging about the stage collapse in Ottawa.
Heavy winds and rain knocked over the main stage at the Ottawa Bluesfest during Cheap Trick’s set July 17, falling backward onto trucks, while thousands fled the festival grounds. The collapse reportedly canceled sets by Galactic, Joe Satriani and Death Cab For Cutie.
Also, festival executive director Mark Monahan has said the stage was rented from Groupe Berger/Mega-Stage, and it had been used for the festival for several years without incident, according to CTV. Monahan also reportedly said the stage had been inspected by structural engineers.
Three people were hospitalized including Sandy Sanderson, a truck driver for Cheap Trick who sustained the worst injuries.
