Dropkick Murphys Extend Shamrock-N-Roll Festival

The traveling festival will now include a Sept. 16 stop in Providence, R.I. The event will be a 21-and-up block party outside The Whiskey Republic, the waterfront Irish pub-style restaurant and sports bar co-owned by Dropkick Murphys’ bassist/vocalist Ken Casey.

The Shamrock-N-Roll Festival includes performances by Stiff Little Fingers, Street Dogs, Chuck Ragan, The Mahones, The Parkington Sisters and local bands. Boxer “Irish” Micky Ward will be there to sign autographs and put on a boxing demonstration. Ward was the subject of the title song of the band’s 2005 album The Warrior’s Code and the inspiration behind the 2010 film “The Fighter.”

After playing two sold-out shows at Boston’s Fenway Park Sept. 8-9, the festival begins Sept. 10 in Bangor, Maine, at Downtown Bangor/Bangor Waterfront.

The festival will also be making its way to Altamont, N.Y. (Sept. 11); Pittsburgh (Sept. 12); Columbus, Ohio (Sept. 13); Portsmouth, Va. (Sept. 15); Rochester, N.Y. (Sept. 17); and Philadelphia (Sept. 18). 

Tickets for the Providence show go on sale Thursday. The $28.60 ticket price includes a $2.60 service fee. The Dropkick Murphys will donate $1 from every ticket  to the band’s charity, The Claddagh Fund.
